Slice of the Past

Know how I said in my last post that I ran into Derrick after almost 7 years? Well here’s how that went down…

A few nights ago Claire and I were unpacking boxes of our stuff and still trying to set everything up in the apartment. Since we only just moved in, we had a lot of work to do…we have SO much stuff!

We were working on unpacking kitchen utensils when Claire suddenly stopped, “We haven’t stopped unpacking all day and it’s 12:50am…let’s get something to eat.”

I gave a slight laugh, “We don’t have anything to eat in here. We’ve been too busy trying to get settled to go food shopping.”

“That’s why I said let’s get something to eat…let’s go out right now and find a place that stays open all night!” I raised an eyebrow at her over excitement. “What’s the look for, Mass?”

“Someone’s a little too excited just for going out to get food…” I laughed.

“Well all we’ve been doing lately is unpacking. I just want to get out! I need to see the outside world!” Leave it to Claire to fake being overdramatic. I shook my head at my best friend and gave her a questioning look.

“What place is even open at this time?” Claire smiled, already putting her flip-flops on, and started walking out of the kitchen.

“Slice of Heaven!” She grabbed the keys and I smiled at the memories we had there with everyone.

“I could SO go for some cheese fries right now!” I realized just how hungry I was. After I said that, I heard Claire gasp dramatically “What?”

“The Massie Hope Block wants cheese fries?!” I couldn’t help but laugh at the fake surprised look on her face. Every once in awhile when I said I wanted something unhealthy, like fries or even gummies, Claire would do this because of the way I used to be when we were younger and didn’t eat that kind of stuff. I once again shook my head at the girl in front of me and grabbed the throw pillow that was near me.

She tried to get out of the way in time, but failed causing us both to laugh again, “Come on let’s go already! I want those cheese fries!” and out the door we went.

We were happy to see that not only was the Slice of Heaven still definitely open, but it was also pretty much empty…except for a couple of good looking guys.

While Claire was ordering our food I was trying to sneak peeks at the cute guys, that was cut short when I noticed Claire trying to get my attention, “What?”

“You know that one guy over there has been staring at you for awhile…” I looked over to the guy she was talking about. Wow was he cute! But he had a surprised/shocked look on his face…I wondered why…

“Block?” The cute guy spoke up, still looking at me with a surprised look. It took me a few seconds to realize he just said my last name, but there was only ever one person who called me by my last name and that was…

“Derrick…” I whispered with a look of surprise coming out on my own face. I heard Claire give a small gasp next to me, this time it wasn’t an overdramatic fake one.

I was still in shock over seeing Derrick for the first time in years, that I didn’t know what to do. It was like my feet were stuck to the ground. We just kept staring at each other, then I noticed him start to walk over to me.

So I did the first thing I could think of. I took our food, grabbed Claire’s arm, and turned and ran out the door back to our apartment before he had the chance to reach me.

I already know I’m going to run into him again…and probably sooner than I’d like since he knows I’m back now. I just have no idea why I reacted like that…I usually can keep my calm…

I can’t believe what Derrick looks like now though! Seriously guys he’s really good looking…

Lots of Love,

Massie Hope ❤

Sounded like a productive day until you went to Slice Of Heaven and bumped into Derrick. Talk about awkward, no wonder you struggled to stay calm.
