Whatever It Takes

I know I can make it through…

Ehmahgawd! I’ve been so busy, that I haven’t had time to update. So I decided to give you girlies a long post with a few updates!

College has seriously been taking up all of my time, especially now since it’s really close to the end of the semester. Claire and I have so many assignments and papers to do. It’s insane! So basically we’ve just been spending all our time in front of our laptops doing homework. Luckily, we’ve been able to get a good amount of it started and we got something else that was totally stressful out of the way. That being registration! Registering for the next semester is always SO nerve wracking because everyone logs on the university’s site at the same time and sometimes the site slows down or freezes. Plus you’re trying to be able to get the classes you need with the schedule you want and you have to worry about the class being closed. Thankfully, Claire and I both got the schedule and classes we wanted!

Now all we have to worry about are finals in December…and my grade in the hardest class ever! It’s a computer science class about database systems and it really makes no sense to me. I have a C in the class and I know that’s better than failing, but still I’d like at least a B-, but luckily I still have a chance before finals to fix that. The professor gave us a final assignment, group project, a second midterm, and then of course we’ll have a final. So fingers crossed that I get that B-!

Now that you know what’s been going on with college life, let’s get to the good stuff!

Remember in my post from September when I said I ran into Derrick at Slice of Heaven? Well it happened again not too long after that. It happened when Claire and I had to make a late night run to Target…you know what? Maybe I should just tell the story as a flashback…

Sometime in September

The Apartment

8:45 pm

Claire and I were unpacking the boxes labeled ‘bathroom’ on them and Ellie Goulding’s Starry Eyed was playing in the background. I was unpacking the box with the stuff for the medicine cabinet and Claire just got done hanging the shower curtain. Next thing I knew, Claire was standing on the side of the bathtub and a part of the shower curtain.

I turned around and gave her a ‘wtf look’ and raised my eyebrow, “What are you doing?” She looked like she was concentrating on something really hard.

“The light…” She was staring at the bathroom light above the mirror, which had two light bulbs in it.

I let our a small laugh, “What about it?” I now turned to look at it too.

“It looks like the one light bulb is about to –” She didn’t get the chance to finish her sentence because the left light bulb blew out. I now get why she was looking at it.

“Well then…we need light bulbs.” I say while walking out of the bathroom to get a notepad in order to write a reminder.

Claire laughed and then started to get off the side of the tub. However, that didn’t turn out so well. Claire started to slide forward off the side of the tub, the piece of the shower curtain still under her feet and sliding with her. Before either of us knew it, Claire had landed feet first on the floor with the shower curtain now half in the tub and half still under her feet.

We stood there just looking at each other for awhile before I finally spoke, “Claire, you broke the shower curtain!” We lost it after that. We giggled uncontrollably for what seemed like forever before we finally composed ourselves enough to stand up straight.

I wiped the tears from my eyes from laughing so hard, “Now what do we do?” I still had the remains of our laughing fit in my tone of voice.

Claire let out a few more giggles before finally getting it out, “Looks like we’re taking a late night trip to Target!”

It wasn’t long before we were walking into Target and grabbing a cart.

“We should get a couple groceries too.” Claire said while pushing the red plastic cart towards the food aisle.

We decided to try to start eating healthy so we grabbed a lot of vegetable, fruits, and some whole grain bread. But of course we eventually cracked and grabbed some ice cream and cookie dough.

We continued to walk all around Target when Claire and I spotted the Halloween section and went crazy in it. Needless to say, we ended up with a cart full of Halloween stuff that we really didn’t need and now there’s a bunch of people in Westchester that think we’re crazy because we did a weird, random happy dance when we saw Candy Corn Oreos.

We were having so much fun in the Halloween section, that we forgot why we even came to Target in the first place.

“Umm Claire?” She stopped doing the happy Oreos dance and looked at my questioningly, “We still forgot to get a shower curtain and light bulbs!” We both laughed and went off to find the items we came for.

When we finally had them, we were on our way to check out.

The lines are kind of long even though it’s almost ten.” Claire observed and I could only shrug. We got bored with waiting, so we started to laugh at random things and do weird dances. Before we knew it, we were next in line and when I looked up quickly, the cashier was giving us weird looks.

I then did a double take.

The cashier was Derrick.

He fake gasped, “Block isn’t afraid to act crazy in public?” He smirked at me and I just rolled my eyes, a small smile playing at my lips.

“I’m not the same Block I was back then, Derrick.” I smiled at while Claire and I started unloading the cart.

“Well maybe I should get to know this new Block then.” He once again smirked at me. “What are you guys doing here this late anyway?”

“Claire broke the shower curtain.” I told him while pointing to Claire. I looked over at her and we both started laughing again. When we finally stopped, we looked over to see the look on Derrick’s face. He was looking at us like we’ve gone crazy. That just made us start laughing all over again.

Derrick started to say something, but he was interrupted by a tall guy with dark hair and two different colored eyes. Cam.

“Are you almost done for the night, Derrick? We really need cram for that psychology test tomorrow.” Cam spoke to Derrick before looking over to Claire and I. Realization dawned on his face when he noticed who we are.

“You guys are back?” He asked with a happy tone in his voice. Claire, who was standing with her back to him while unloading the cart, turned at the sound of his voice.

“Cammi?!” The biggest smile appeared on her face and she ran over to hug him. I smiled at the two. When Claire came out to England to live with me, she of course had to leave Cam behind. It was hard on them both, but they still kept in contact and the promise that they wouldn’t see any other people while they were apart. I knew it wasn’t going to be long before the two of them were being buttercream sweet on each other again.

I noticed Derrick was also smiling at them, “Well looks like we’ll all have to get together soon and catch up.” He looked to me for approval.

I smiled back at him, “Yeah definitely.”

After that exchange, we started to reload the cart with our bags and said goodbye to the guys after they gave us their numbers.

*End Flashback*

Ever since then, all four of us have been spending a lot of time together. We hang out together, help each other study, and Derrick and Cam even helped us finish getting the apartment set up. We’ve become a close group of friends during these last two months.

As for me and Derrick…we actually get along really well. Surprisingly, he’s been very sweet. He helped me with a paper, he came over late at night when I needed help with something (I saw a giant spider…seriously…the thing was MASSIVE!), and he even brought me soup when I was sick last month even though it was late.

And that’s everything that’s been going on in my life lately. Oh yeah and I’m officially 20 now! :p

Now I must go because Claire and I need to straighten up the apartment. She says hi by the way!

Lots of Love,

Massie Hope Block ♥
